Welcome to Nashvegas–eat more rhinestones!
Since today is my own personal birthday, I thought it would be appropriate to write my very first post as b5’s Nashville (Nashvegas to the locals) blogger. I’m both a native Nashvillian (that rare and mystical creature) and a music freak (that part isn’t too unusual around here). Growing up in Nashville, you can’t help but know folks in the business–you live next door to them, work with them at their day job, are related to them, date them, and so on and so on, and of course the music scene here is legendary. Although a lot of people who live here bitch and complain about the “scene” from time to time–when you step back and take a look at who’s played here in any given month (or week for that matter), and what’s cooking around town in studios, writer’s nights, and so on–you have to admit that we have it pretty damn good. And it’s a whole lot better than the scene you left behind in Mudlick or Hogwallow when you moved to Nashville–c’mon, admit it!!
I’m just like every second person in Nashville-I have a B.A. in Music Business (the music bid’ness, don’cha know), and have worked in and around the industry. Mostly, I just love music. Good music. All kinds. Rock, pop, country, bluegrass, gospel, r&b, funk, blues, punk, alternative, whatever. I’m always looking for new music, so please feel free to hip me to anything that is turning you on. I don’t claim to know everything there is to know, but in the words of Lynyrd Skynyrd–”I know a little”.
Basically, my goal with the blog is to cover a range of things–upcoming shows, reviews of shows I’ve scene, new releases, who’s hitting the road, any inside scoop I might stumble across, the clubs you don’t want to miss if you come to Nashville, and hopefully turn some people on to some new or new to them music that they will dig–things that sometimes get lost in the MTV/VH1 world we live in these days. I’ll also be posting links to many of the great venues around town, great local and regional artists, and to some of the many great other music blogs out there–both on b5, and right here in my own ‘hood.
It’s all about the music!!!
