The B5Media network:

How do you keep up with all the music in this town?

Over the past month or so, as I’ve been preparing for the site to launch, I’ve been trying to really stay on top of who’s playing when and where, and it’s no easy task sometimes. I’ve been out to several shows (I’ll be posting reviews/comments about them), and was thinking that there had to be a good way for me to keep track of this info–so many bands, quite a few venues, plus the Opry shows, and any shows/festivals that are within 2-3 hours driving distance. So, my practical (I think anyway) solution was to do a spreadsheet (which I’m still tweaking) that I hope to link to the blog, and keep updated. I listed venues, and color-coded them to make it easier to read, and just listed the dates–so I can just plug in who’s playing at that venue on that date, and so on. It just helps me plan out who I’m going to see, and such.

How do YOU keep up with dates and locations of gigs? I’m really interested in this–so leave me comments. Through the Scene, the Rage, MySpace, word of mouth, what? I myself am partial to the Scene–www.nashvillescene.com , and just the old-fashioned grapevine. Back in the dark ages, before the internet, cell phones, etc. (before the earth cooled), somehow, we always managed to know who was playing, when, where, and even make it there and meet our friends–all this with no text messaging, AMAZING!! Sometimes, it makes me laugh when I think about it, and also makes me think what we would do today if suddenly that technology was yanked from us…

Anyway, all that really matters is that you make it to the show!!

Suzzann, one of the ways I get the 411 on gigs is to subscribe to the local entertainment tabloids that are on the market (Nashville’s got a couple, at least!). Check out their listings …
By the way, I really enjoyed your blog! You’re very lucid, and have a wonderful gift. I guarantee that I’ll be following The Nashville Music Scene, and add it soon to my Blogroll!
Incidentally, Nashville’s a fave place of mine to visit. Your writing only enhances the prospect of returning soon …

    Thanks,
    Chuck
