Keith Urban media blitz
Is it just me, or is there a major Keith Urban media blitz going on? For the past few days, everytime I look up, there he is! From yesterday’s article on the front page of the Sunday Tennessean, to a Spot on GAC–everywhere. And the main topic seems to be “look at me, I don’t care that my album isn’t selling as well as the last, I’m so happy now that I’ve been to the Betty and got myself together”. In the Tennessean article by Peter Cooper (www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007707150404), Urban basically talks about how although he had been through rehab in ‘98 for cocaine addiction, he never dealt wilth his issues, and then 2 and 1/2 weeks before his Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing album dropped, wife Nicole Kidman took charge and hustled him into the Betty. This album has sold 1.7 million units, which is pretty damn good, but not the numbers he and the label had hoped for, I’m quite sure. He also talks about feeling like an “old man” and looking at things in his life now from the perspective of will this really matter when he’s 80. So–I get up yesterday and read this article, then I’m flipping through the channels and who’s on GAC, basically reiterating everything from said article but Keith Urban. He’s claiming it doesn’t bother him that the album sales aren’t as strong as hoped for, and the fact the none of the singles has hit number one (although current single “I Told You So” is at #4 and moving up), but I’m not buying. I’m glad he went to the Betty, hope he really did get his life together and deal with his issues, and think he is extremely talented. But I do think it bothers him, I think it bothers him plenty. I have him down in my book as High Maintenance–any man whose hair looks better than not only mine, but most of the females I know, and has the artful stubble look down to a science, hmmmm, just don’t trust ‘em. I DO think that his publicist has been working overtime.. Let me know what you think!
