ROBIN THICKE and Beyonce tonight at the Sommet

ROBIN THICKE and Beyonce tonight at the Sommet

I know Beyonce–her Bootyliciousness–is the headliner, and I do dig her danceable pop perfection, and I know her stage show will be spectacular and rival Vegas for its glitz and glamour, but the real draw for me here is Robin Thicke.  I was a late comer to his soulful, funky stylings  (had been listening to mostly indie/rock/alt-country for apparently longer than I realized).  Then I caught him on VH1 early one am and called my BFF (who never knows the bands I listen to–love ya Bess) and asked her if she knew this cat.  “Of course”, she laughed, and proceeded …read more

Keith Urban media blitz

Keith Urban media blitz

Is it just me, or is there a major Keith Urban media blitz going on? For the past few days, everytime I look up, there he is! From yesterday’s article on the front page of the Sunday Tennessean, to a Spot on GAC–everywhere. And the main topic seems to be “look at me, I don’t care that my album isn’t selling as well as the last, I’m so happy now that I’ve been to the Betty and got myself together”. In the Tennessean article by Peter Cooper (www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007707150404), Urban basically talks about how although he had been through rehab in …read more

Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Ky!

Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Ky!

Just in time for a mid-summer road comes Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Ky–just right down the road. This looks to be a great time for all, offering a killer line-up of bands, art (a regionally curated art exhibition), and environmental activism events and speakers, as well as an outdoor extreme sports park. This event features national artists, but is also heavy on regional acts, and includes talent such as De La Soul, The Features (fresh off their Nashville gig this past week), How I Became The Bomb, Particle, Girl Talk, Wax Fang, De Novo Dahl, The October, and …read more

Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman

Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman

One of my absolute favorite venues is the Ryman auditorium, you just can’t beat it for the sound quality.  And the atmosphere…what can I say, it’s holy ground for any music lover as the people who have played on that stage are legendary (you know it was originally built as a church-it opened as the Union Gospel Tabernacle in 1892), and artists love to play the Ryman for both of those reasons.
The Ryman has a series of bluegrass shows going right now, on Thursday nights, and for a mere $22.50, you can see some of the best bluegrass talent anywhere, …read more

The Fray tonight at the Sommet Center

The Fray tonight at the Sommet Center

The Fray are headlining tonight at the Sommet Center (formerly the Gaylord Entertainment Center).  Sharing the bill are Eisley (who’ll be back on August 10th at the Belcourt) and Katie Herzig.  Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.  Also tonight, the regular Monday night BMI 8 off 8th show at the Mercy Lounge.

Cosmic America at Springwater

Cosmic America at Springwater

I’m on my way out the door right now to see Cosmic America, playing tonight at Springwater with Six Gun Lullaby and Yr Cut of the Trust. I love these guys, I saw them at Springwater a little over a month ago, and then at the Monday night BMI 8 off 8th Miniroo show at the Mercy Lounge the week of Bonnaroo. I’ll be adding to this post when I get home (maybe, or maybe in the am), plus posting about several shows I’ve seen in the past few weeks.

The Pink Spiders FREE SHOW!!

The Pink Spiders FREE SHOW!!

Nashville’s own Pink Spiders will be playing a hometown gig at the Exit/In on Monday, July 9th, and did I mention that it was FREE!! Doesn’t get much better than that, if you ask me! The show starts at 8:00, and features the Pink Spiders headlining, along with The Casual and Plastic Clap. The Spiders are taking a brief break from recording, as they just finished three new songs in L.A., working with producer Brendan O’Brien whose producing/engineering/mixing credits read like a who’s who in the last 15-20 years of rock (including artists such as Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, …read more

Getting ready for the OFFICIAL b5 music channel launch!!

Getting ready for the OFFICIAL b5 music channel launch!!

Although technically I’ve had access to my blog for almost 3 weeks, our b5 music channel’s OFFICIAL (and much-anticipated, at least by me and those wonderful people who support me) launch doesn’t occur until July 9th–but that is now a mere 2 days away!!! And so I am going through my checklists to make sure I am as ready as I can be when the magic day arrives! I’ve got a lot of posts that I’ve been working on, as well as my spreadsheet listing dates, venues, and artists (I’m working out the logistics of this, and the …read more

How do you keep up with all the music in this town?

How do you keep up with all the music in this town?

Over the past month or so, as I’ve been preparing for the site to launch, I’ve been trying to really stay on top of who’s playing when and where, and it’s no easy task sometimes. I’ve been out to several shows (I’ll be posting reviews/comments about them), and was thinking that there had to be a good way for me to keep track of this info–so many bands, quite a few venues, plus the Opry shows, and any shows/festivals that are within 2-3 hours driving distance. So, my practical (I think anyway) solution was to do a spreadsheet (which I’m …read more
